Live-Action Remake of Disney's LILO & STITCH in the Works

Lilo & Stitch will be receiving a live-action remake, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Disney has hired Mike Van Waes to write the script for the remake of the 2002 animated film. The team behind the live-action remake of Aladdin, Dan Lin and Jonathan Eirich of Rideback, will be producing the film.

The original Lilo & Stitch was written and directed by Dean DeBlois and Chris Sanders.

The animated film told the story of the bond formed between a lonely human girl named Lilo and a dog-like alien named Stitch, who is engineered to be a force of destruction. Pursuing aliens, social workers, and the idea of the bond of family figure into the proceedings.

There is no word yet if the live-action remake will be released in theaters or on Disney's upcoming streaming service.

The remake of Lilo & Stitch is just the latest project in Disney's strategy of re-creating their animated classics with live-action elements. They've previously released live-action remakes of Cinderella, The Jungle Book, Beauty and the Beast, Pete's Dragon with Dumbo, The Lion King and Aladdin will be released in the near future.
