Jennifer Lopez to Star as Colombian Drug Matriarch in HBO Films' THE COCAINE GODMOTHER

EW reports that Jennifer Lopez has signed up to HBO Films' upcoming drama THE COCAINE GODMOTHER. The actress and singer will portray Colombian drug matriarch Griselda Blanco in the project.

Said Lopez in a statement, "I've been fascinated by the life of this corrupt and complicated woman for many years. The idea of teaming with HBO felt like the perfect fit for finally bringing Griselda's story to life."

The film will follow "the rise and fall of Blanco, the notorious drug lord who revolutionized the U.S. drug trade during the 1970s and 1980s, and became the most powerful female cartel member of all time. Blanco was arrested in 1985, but was eventually freed and deported to Medellín, Colombia. She was killed in a drive-by shooting in the city on Sept. 3, 2012."

The former AMERICAN IDOL judge will also continue her starring role in NBC's Shades of Blue. the hit drama series was picked up for a sophomore season after only five episodes had aired. She currently can be seen in her live stage show at Las Vegas' at Planet Hollywood Resort and Casino.
