Acclaimed director Guillermo Del Toro will officially take on the ghost-flick CRIMSON PEAK for Legendary Pictures as his next feature, Deadline reported this afternoon.

Del Toro described CRIMSON PEAK to Deadline as: “a very set-oriented, classical but at the same time modern take on the ghost story. It will allow me to play with the conventions of the genre I know and love, and at the same time subvert the old rules.”

Eying an early 2014 production date, del Toro will sit down with writer Lucinda Coxon and work the script into a final draft. This extended writing time allows del Toro to wrap up all press tours for his latest Legendary Pictures backed film PACIFIC RIM, as well as complete the pilot of THE STRAIN for FX.

Del Toro goes on to explain that he intends to emulate the classic horror films such as THE HAUNTING and THE INNOCENTS. You can read the full report here.

Del Toro has made a name for himself in the film industry due to his work on such movies as HELLBOY, PAN'S LABYRINTH, and MIMIC. His next film, PACIFIC RIM, starring Idris Elba, Charlie Hunnam, Rinko Kikuchi, Charlie Day and DIEGO KLATTENHOFF, will arrive in theaters on July 12, 2013.
