Christian Bale in Talks for Universal's EVEREST

Deadline reports that Christian Bale is currently in talks to star in Universal Pictures and Working Title's EVEREST from director Baltasar Kormakur. Working Title's Tim Bevan, Liza Chasin and Eric Fellner are set to produce along with Evan Hayes.

The film, penned by Justin Isbell, retells the horror of the 1996 disastrous expedition to scale Mount Everest, in which three different expeditions were hit by a sudden blinding storm. The natural disaster resulted in the deaths of eight climbers.

Jon Krakauer wrote of the catastrophe in 'Into Thin Air', his first-person account of the experience which he was fortunate enough to survive. The film will also feature accounts from from various books and interviews with survivors.

Bale is best known for his role as Bruce Wayne / Batman in Christopher Nolan's Batman Begins (2005), The Dark Knight (2008), and The Dark Knight Rises (2012). He also portrayed Dicky Eklund in the biopic The Fighter (2010), for which he received critical acclaim and won several awards, including the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor, the Golden Globe Award for Best Supporting Actor and the Screen Actors Guild Award for Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Supporting Role.
