CUNY TV, the City University of New York television station, will broadcast Season One of Sweden's popular detective series WALLANDER, based on the crime stories of best-selling global author Henning Mankell.

Episode 1, Before the Frost - based on Mankell's novel of the same name - will premiere Saturday, July 12 at 9pm, repeating Sunday, July 13 at 9pm and Friday, July 18 at midnight (Saturday, July 19 at 12am) in the traditional time slots of City Cinematheque (returning to the CUNY TV schedule on October 11). The first episode of WALLANDER will be introduced by Jerry Carlson, the host of City Cinematheque.

CUNY TV is broadcast over-the-air in the tri-state area on digital Ch. 25.3, and cablecast in the five boroughs of New York City on Ch. 75 (Time Warner and Optimum/Cablevision Brooklyn), Ch. 77 (RCN) and Ch. 30 (Verizon FiOS).

Broadcast in Swedish with English subtitles and originally produced for Swedish television in 2005-06, WALLANDER depicts the active life of seasoned detective Kurt Wallander (portrayed by Krister Henriksson), located in Sweden's seaside town of Ystad. Struggling to solve cases involving nearly everyone in town are Kurt and his daughter Linda (Johanna Sällström), a recent recruit to the police department, and their colleague Stefan Lindman (Ola Rapace).

To solve cases, Wallander relies on his instinct and experience, using unconventional and sometimes illegal means. In addition, he and his daughter must repair a rocky relationship, and Linda and Stefan find they must fight for professional approval.

Actor Henriksson has continued to portray Detective Wallander in a second (2009-10) and third (2013) season of the Swedish series, for a total of 32 episodes. WALLANDER was also remade in English, starring Kenneth Branagh.
