48 HOURS: "Driven to Extremes" was Saturday's #1 non-sports program, with viewers, according to Nielsen live plus same day ratings for Oct. 14. 48 HOURS delivered 4.87 million viewers and a 1.1/04 with adults 25-54, the demographic that matters most to those who advertise in news.

Saturday's broadcast featured Peter Van Sant and 48 HOURS' investigation into a case of love, infidelity and murder that left one man dead and his wife and mistress fighting over what happened on a stretch of Texas highway.

Millionaire trucking magnate Bill Hall Jr. died when his motorcycle collided with the Cadillac Escalade driven by his estranged wife, Frances Hall. Prosecutors and Hall's mistress, Bonnie Contreras, claim Frances Hall, in a jealous rage, intentionally killed her husband and tried to run Contreras, then driving a Hall family Range Rover, off the road.

Van Sant and 48 HOURS reported on the incident, the case against Frances hall, her conviction and the unusual sentencing.

48 HOURS: "Driven to Extremes" is produced by Paul LaRosa, Ryan Smith, Claire St. Amant, Jonathan Leach, Josh Gelman and Jamie Stolz. Stephanie Slifer is the associate producer. George Baluzy, Marcus Balsam, Grayce Arlotta-Berner, Ken Blum, Jud Johnston and Marlon Disla are the editors. Patti Aronofsky is the senior producer. Susan Zirinsky is the senior executive producer.
