CBS NEWS Broadcasts Deliver Strong Performances with Key Demos

CBS News' broadcasts delivered strong performances with key news demos and viewers across all dayparts, according to Nielsen live plus same day ratings for the week ending June 7.

CBS News' strong performance was led by doubt-digit percentage gains in viewers for the CBS EVENING NEWS WITH SCOTT PELLEY, CBS THIS MORNING and CBS THIS MORNING: SATURDAY, while FACE THE NATION, CBS SUNDAY MORNING WITH CHARLES OSGOOD, Saturday's 48 HOURS and 60 MINUTES each finished #1 with adults 25-54 and viewers.

The week featured John Dickerson's start as anchor of FACE THE NATION and such original reporting as Charlie Rose's interview with CIA director Gen. David Petraeus; Erin Moriarty's interview with the parents of Tyler Clementi, the Rutgers University student who committed suicide after being bullied; Dr. John LaPook's reporting in Haiti on efforts to separate conjoined twins; Clarissa Ward's reporting on fighting in the Ukraine; Richard Schlesinger's report on a woman who shot dead her husband and then 20 years later shot her son with the same gun; Dr. Tara Narula's report on the FDA decision on a new female libido drug; and Dickerson's interview with NJ Gov. Chris Christie.

Here's a recap of how CBS News' broadcasts did last week:

The CBS EVENING NEWS WITH SCOTT PELLEY was up +11% year-to-year in viewers (6.61m from 5.98m) and maintained its adults 25-54 rating (1.2/05), for the week ending June 5. The broadcast added +630,000 viewers and closed the viewership gap with NBC by 630,000 viewers compared to the same week last year. CBS THIS MORNING Co-Host CHARLIE ROSE substituted for Scott Pelley.

60 MINUTES (R) was #1 at 7:00 PM in adults 25-54 (1.5/05) and viewers (8.42m) on June 7.
FACE THE NATION on June 7 was the #1 Sunday public affairs program with adults 25-54 (0.7/04, tie) and viewers (3.19m).

CBS THIS MORNING was the only network morning news program to post year-to-year gains among adults 25-54 (+14%, 0.8/07 from 0.7/06), viewers (+15%, 3.44m from 2.98m) and women 25-54 (+13%, 0.9/07 from 0.8/06) compared to a year ago for the week ending June 5. CBS THIS MORNING gained +460,000 viewers compared to the same week last year.

CBS SUNDAY MORNING WITH CHARLES OSGOOD was the #1 Sunday morning news program with adults 25-54 and viewers on June 7. The broadcast delivered 5.46 million viewers and a 1.2/07 with adults 25-54.

48 HOURS (R) was #1 at 10:00 PM with adults 25-54 (1.1/04), adults 18-49 (0.7/03) and with viewers (4.90m) on June 6. 48 HOURS on Saturday was up +38% in adults 25-54 (from 0.8/03), +17% in adults 18-49 (from 0.6/02) and added +880,000 viewers (from 4.02m, +22%). Meanwhile, 48 HOURS (R) on June 2 was #1 at 10:00 PM with viewers, delivering 6.20m people and a 1.4/04 with adults 25-54.

CBS THIS MORNING: SATURDAY on June 6 posted double-digit percentage gains in viewers (+18%, 2.26m from 1.92m) compared to the same week the year before.
