The CBS EVENING NEWS WITH SCOTT PELLEY, America's fastest growing network evening news broadcast, finished the 2015-16 television season with CBS's highest ratings in the time period in 10 years (since the 2005-06 season), according to Nielsen most current ratings.

The CBS EVENING NEWS has grown its audience for six consecutive seasons, a first-time achievement for any network evening news broadcast since the advent of people meters (since at least 1987).

Under Pelley, who assumed the anchor chair in June 2011, the CBS EVENING NEWS has added +1.4 million viewers and an audience increase of + 23%, which is double NBC and ABC's growth combined over the same period (since the 2010-11 season).

"Serious times deserve a serious-minded evening news broadcast and America seems to agree. Six straight years of audience growth is deeply gratifying to us all," said Steve Capus, Executive Producer of the CBS EVENING NEWS WITH SCOTT PELLEY and Executive Editor of CBS News. "With Scott Pelley at the helm and an unmatched team of journalists around the world, we will continue to deliver the original reporting and distinctive storytelling that viewers have come to expect."

Compared to last season, the CBS EVENING NEWS WITH SCOTT PELLEY finished the 2015-16 television season up +2% in viewers (7.35m from 7.23m), adding the most viewers among the network evening news broadcasts. CBS maintained its rating in adults 25-54 (1.4/06).

For the 2015-16 television season, CBS closed the viewership gap with NBC by 270,000 viewers, compared to last season, making this the closest CBS has been to NBC in 17 years (since the 1998?99 season).

CBS also showed ratings growth for the May 2016 Sweep, according to Nielsen live plus same day ratings. The CBS EVENING NEWS posted its best May Sweep delivery in viewers in 10 years (since the May 2006 Sweep). In the key adults 25-54 demographic, the CBS broadcast finished just 0.1 ratings points behind ABC, marking the closest CBS has been to ABC in adults 25-54 in a May Sweep in at least 22 years (since May 1994). The CBS broadcast is up +8% in adults 25-54 (1.3/06 from 1.2/06) and viewers (+1%, 6.69m from 6.63m) compared to last May.
