Variety has reported that Bryan Cranston, Laurence Fishburne, and Steve Carell have all signed on to star in Richard Linklater's latest project, a film adaptation of the novel "Last Flag Flying."

Based on the 2005 Darryl Ponicsan novel, a sequel to his 1970 novel "The Last Detail", the film takes place during the Iraq War. The original book spawned a film version in the 70's which starred Jack Nicholson, Randy Quaid, and Otis Young. The current film adaptation is set to include some of the original film's characters, Mule, Billy Bad-Ass, and Meadows.

Linklater has been working to get the film made since 2006 and intended initially to include some of the original film stars. Amazon is currently considering the adaptation for financing and distribution.
