Variety reports that Billy Crystal is set to write, produce and star in The Jim Henson Co.'s animated movie project, WHICH WITCH. Production is set to begin early next year with Brian Henson directing.

CEO Lisa Henson told the site that casting on the film is currently underway. The project is based on Eva Ibbotson's 1979 book which follows a wizard who "holds a contest among the seven witches of Todcaster to determine which witch he will marry."

Said Crystal, "When Brian Henson called me about it, I didn't know the book. But it's a fantastic story, and I brought in a wonderful writer, Michael Feldman, and we've written a terrific and inventive script. I'll play a character as well, which will be great fun because he actually has two eyes."

Lisa Henson added that the 'Monster's Inc.' actor would be intricately involved with production, expected to take about two years to conclude. "We're focusing heavily on getting the tone right," she said.

Crystal appeared on Saturday Night Live from 1984 to 1985. He has also starred in The Princess Bride, When Harry Met Sally, Analyze This, Monster's Inc, Analyze That, Monster's University, and more. His Broadway credits include the Tony-winning 700 Sundays, which he also wrote.
