We move from sea to land for tonight's penultimate episode of Season Two before the mid-season finale. Yes, it's from the Abigail boat to the Abigail vineyard as the gang finally arrives in Mexico. Safety at last... right?

We begin at a church service as the Pastor preaches about being tested by God. He leads the parishioners out the doors to head out and stop "her." (Who is her? Wait for it.) Thomas Abigail shows up and begs them not to go and it is a misunderstanding. The Pastor tells them that Celia is evil. (Celia = her) As he does so, all the parishioners begin bleeding out of their eyes and dying.

Back on the boat, everyone has expressed their "concerns" about the state of mind of Chris. And it's justified. As they approach the Mexican border, Luis and Strand's deal goes a little south in which they wind up killing some border patrol and Luis is shot. He is not fully dead and gives Nick a weird coin to give to his mother. Salazar tosses the coin over the side of the boat.

On land, they come upon the scene at the church where all the, now zombie-fied, parishioners attack. Madison is very close to getting bitten as Chris just watches. Alicia, horrified, intervenes and saves her. Strand takes the truck and drives them all to the Abigail vineyard where he is finally reunited with Thomas. But he is too late as Thomas has been bitten and only has hours to live. Celia, Luis' mother, (yes, the aforementioned "her") welcomes them in after they surrender their weapons. Only Salazar is skeptical.

Nick finds Celia in the kitchen and bonds with her after she gives him a bowl of pozole (I mean who wouldn't bond with her, that stuff is crazy good). She informs him that the dead have always been walking among us, now we can just see them. Madison, overhearing, warns her that Nick is fragile and impressionable. Celia informs her that Nick is enlightened and special. I feel as though Celia and Madison may clash.

Chris finds Alicia and basically threatens her not to tell Madison what she thinks she saw as he believes it would ruin their family. Alicia caves and tells Madison about Chris who confronts Travis. Travis isn't exactly receptive to the accusation that Chris threatened Alicia and they decide to sleep apart for the night; Chris with Travis and Madison with Alicia.

Salazar, who's being all kinds of weird, finds a kid talking to someone in the cellar. The kid tells Salazar it's his Mom. Salazar discovers a whole Hershel's Farm kind of situation where all the dead are locked up in a cage. He confronts Celia, who tells him she is fine having the dead so near and he needs to make peace with it. He realizes that it was she who killed all the parishioners by poisoning their communion wafers. She later tells Nick that they aren't completely dead they are just "what's next."

Strand offers to go "with" Thomas when he passes. Celia is moved and tells Strand she misjudged him. She leaves the poisoned communion wafers with him. When Thomas passes, Strand doesn't take the wafer and instead shoots Thomas in the head to prevent him from reanimating. (So was that another con or did he chicken out?) The shot wakes up Alicia and Madison who find Chris standing over them with a knife.

WOW! So Celia is a new villain of sorts? I'm on board with that. Who thinks she'll be less than thrilled that Strand didn't go through with his sacrifice and instead shot Thomas dead dead? She strikes me as a very "You wouldn't like me when I'm angry" kind of gal.

Chris isn't doing himself any favors in the psycho son department. And Nick sure had a moment at the outside prayer altar. I was wondering if anyone was going to mention the "last time" Nick was in a church. Maybe Celia is right. Maybe Nick is really the only enlightened one of the group. Strand looks like he may be a bit incapacitated for a while which is a great chance for Nick to step up and prove his worth. Salazar is a little out to lunch (What was up with the flashback of a boy being choked?). Although we all know, once you become the moral compass, your time is limited. Only one more before hiatus!

Here's a preview for next week's finale:
