Welcome back Stranger Friends, MADAM SECRETARY is back and BWW and I are back to recap and discuss each episode with you. While we were gone, our favorite Secretary and company went on to become the highest rated new series of the season, averaging 15.1 million viewers each week, and being the 9th highest rated of all shows for the season. Congrats to the entire cast. For the second half of the season, we will be trying a few different styles of offering up our recaps, adding more live updating of each episode and a few other new tricks to keep you up to date quicker on the current episode.

The second half of the season starts off jam packed with a Mexican drug bust gone bad and a Texas Ranger dead, a 25th wedding anniversary get-away for the McCords, and a family injury back at home. The Secretary is having trouble getting Mexico to extradite the captured drug running killer to the U.S., unless the Ranger's family agree's to take the death penalty off the table. The family agrees, but the Texas Governor is using the death penalty for a little grand-standing to bolster a possible future Presidential run. Looks like Jay is in trouble again, as the Governor is a friend, who gave Jay his first campaigning job in Texas.

It's Elizabeth and Henry's 25th anniversary and they are heading to New York City to retrace their first steps together. The staff assures her they can handle everything and to enjoy her first time off since taking the job, and Blake whisks her off to meet Henry at the airport. The Assistant Secretary of State will be handling any day to day problems that may come up. Henry is being dismissed by his NSA handlers, as they don't feel they have enough of a threat to warrant investigating Klaus any further as he is going out of the country for six months. As soon as the couple are off on their anniversary adventure, their son Jason disobeys the first rule of no rough housing while they are gone, and promptly runs around and into Blake as he comes in to check on them, and falls and twists his ankle.

Family dynamics interrupt the anniversary with Stephanie as well as Jason's ankle injury, as we find out that she is still harboring a grudge for finding out about her mom's role in torture and they are trying to get her to go back to college. The drug runner they are trying to get extradited get's busted out of prison, but not by his drug buddies, but from a Texas Militia, looking to put the death penalty back ON the table, Texas style. I love them using New York as an actual location, (especially since the series films there as a requirement for Tea Leoni accepting the role), and in true NYC style, the restaurant where they had their first romantic dinner is now a new trendy nightspot. As they head to their table, Henry's NSA spying target Klaus happen's to be at the same restaurant and MADAM SECRETARY invites them to join in their anniversary dinner. ACKWARD!!

The Assistant Secretary of State is trying to keep the kidnapped drug cartel member under his control without bothering the Secretary on her anniversary, so the staff is off to Texas to try to get the Governor who is exploiting the entire situation to back down. Meanwhile at dinner, Henry is suspicious of Klaus and has his NSA contact check on his story for being in New York, which doesn't pan out. As Klaus brings his briefcase up on the dinner table, Henry goes into panic mode and gets the Secret Service to get the Secretary out of there. This is going to be either Henry's greatest moment, or blow his NSA assignment all to hell.

This is going to be an anniversary for the record books! Henry has to come clean to the Secretary about who Klaus is, making her not only feel like he lied to her, but also reinforces why she feels the secrets between the NSA and her department can be dangerous. Blake begins the expected freaking out over Jason's ankle injury, trying to deny his responsibility, then letting the responsibility come crashing down on him in typical Blake manic and hilarious style, until Daisy tries to snap him out of it. In Texas, the Governor has got the photo-op he was hoping for and the FBI has come with a warrant to claim the drug runner, which the Governor refuses to acknowledge. Great TV for the Governor, headaches and time for the staff to call the actual Secretary.

As the Secretary heads to Texas, Henry get's a call from Klaus. Klaus and Henry meet near a police station for Henry to feel safe and Klaus let's him know that he found the bug, and he did meet Henry on purpose at his anniversary, but to ask for protection for his son from retribution as he finds himself in too deep and is looking to get out from the foreign terrorists he has gotten mixed up with. The NSA will only agree to protect his son, if Klaus turns on the terrorists but goes back in to get evidence. Henry shows he is the heart of the show repeatedly, and he handles Klaus very well here, I think the NSA will be calling again sometime.

In Texas, thanks to some intel from Jay, who is making good on being on the Secretary's team, MADAM SECRETARY makes quick work of the Governor in her signature style of class, casualness, brass, and blackmail. At the speed the Secretary comes up with her plans, the poor Assistant Secretary of State may never have any air time again, lol. It's Blake's turn to apologize to the Secretary for breaking her son, and of course she makes him understand that it's a much bigger deal to him, than she ever is going to make of it. You got to love how she refuses to sweat the small stuff. The episode ends with the McCords back together at home, lamenting their best laid plans for their 25th anniversary, but everything always ends well over a bag of Chinese take-out and a game of Scrabble.
