The Amazing Spider-Man producer and prolific writer Alex Kurtzman will be directing another fantasy-driven film.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Emmy Award-winner Kurtzman has just about sealed the deal to direct Universal's re-make of THE MUMMY movie. He is already fully on board to produce with Chris Morgan, Sean Daniel, and executive producer Bobby Cohen. This project, set to be released April 22, 2016, will be the first of a few monster movies from Universal, set in the same cinematic universe. Thus, all of the other films will follow its structure.

Though plot details have yet to be revealed, this will be set in modern day as an action-driven feature with elements of horror movies without being exclusively a horror movie. It will also be full of new characters. Kurtzman also joins Robert Orci and Jon Spaihts in writing the script.

Alex Kurtzman is a producer and writer known for Transformers (2007), The Amazing Spider-Man 2 (2014) and Star Trek (2009). He is married to Samantha Counter.
