According to Entertainment Weekly, Al Franken was a crowd-pleaser at Vulture Festival where he talked about his new book Al Franken, Giant of the Senate. The biggest hit was when the senator, well-known for his hatred of Ted Cruz, read an excerpt from his book that included the humorous lines: "Here's the thing you have to understand about Ted Cruz. I like Ted Cruz more than most of my other colleagues like Ted Cruz. And I hate Ted Cruz."

Franken can have quite an acerbic tongue when taking on the complicated issues, but he says his book pays respect where respect is due. He explained that he has a rule where "if you have a conversation with somebody and it makes them look bad - it's a private conversation - you don't repeat it." He does say Ted Cruz is the exception because Cruz broke protocol when he called Mitch McConnell a liar on the floor of the Senate.

Franken's book is a personal memoire that focuses heavily on his unlikely rise from comedian and SNL writer to a Democratic Senator from Minnesota. The book is currently available for pre-order and will be released on May 30, 2017.
