AMERICAN IDOL La'Porsha Renae's 'Battles' to Serve as U.S. Women's Gymnastics Team Theme Song

Billboard reports that AMERICAN IDOL season 15 runner-up La'Porsha Renae's coronation song, "Battles," will serve as the theme song for the U.S. women's gymnastics team. Many will recall that 2012 IDOL champion Phillip Phillip's coronation song 'Home' served as the theme song during the London Olympics. The anthem went on to become one of the biggest hits that summer.

Ranae tells the site, "I wasn't even the winner of the show, so I felt very honored to be afforded this opportunity."

Written by Who is Fancy, the song will be featured on Renae's Motown debut dropping this November. The tune was first brought to NBC's attention by AMERICAN IDOL producer Megan Michaels, whose father, David, is NBC's producer for women's gymnastics. Explains Ranae, "He was watching the finale and saw me perform 'Battles' and thought that it may be a good song for the Olympics. He just wanted it more Olympic sounding."
