ABC'S WORLD NEWS is Top Evening Newscast in Adults 25-54

ABC's "World News Tonight with David Muir" is the top evening newscast in Adults 25-54 season to date for the first time in 7 years - since the 2007-08 season. "World News Tonight" won in Adults 25-54 (2.016 million) during the week of October 20, 2014, based on Live +Same Day Data from Nielsen Media Research and for the 5th straight week of the season. The ABC News program led NBC "Nightly News" (1.967 million) by 49,000 news demo viewers for the week.

"World News Tonight" improved on the year-earlier week (1.973 million and 1.323 million, respectively, on w/o 10/21/13) in Adults 25-54 (+2%) and Adults 18-49 (+3%), posting year-to-year Adults 25-54 increases in all 5 weeks of the season. "World News Tonight" stood as the only evening newscast to grow in the key adult news demo and grew the most in Adults 18-49, as "CBS Evening News was mixed (-1%/+1%) and "NBC Nightly News" (-10%/-14%) was down by double-digits.

"World News Tonight" narrowed its week-to-week margins with "NBC Nightly News" in Total Viewers (-34% - 454,000 vs. 687,000) and Adults 18-49 (-81% - 21,000 vs. 109,000).

In addition, "World News Tonight" cut its gaps with "NBC Nightly News" from the year-ago week in Total Viewers (-18% - 454,000 vs. 557,000) and Adults 18-49 (-93% - 21,000 vs. 290,000).

Season to date, "World News Tonight" stands as the No. 1 evening newscast in Adults 25-54, leading "NBC Nightly News" by 67,000 news demo viewers. This marks the first time in 7 years that "World News Tonight" ranks as the top evening newscast in Adults 25-54 during the season - since the 2007-08 season. In addition, "World News Tonight" slashed its season gaps with "NBC Nightly News" by 44% in Total Viewers (420,000 vs. 747,000) and by 64% in Adults 18-49 (83,000 vs. 232,000) to its closest performances in 6 years and 7 years, respectively - since the 2008-09 and the 2007-08 seasons, respectively.

"World News Tonight" is improving versus the same point last season in Total Viewers (+6%), Adults 25-54 (+7%) and Adults 18-49 (+3%). Delivering increases for the 2nd season in a row, "World News Tonight" is posting its best overall viewer start to a season in 9 years and strongest in the key adult news demo in 5 years - since the 2005-06 and the 2009-10 seasons, respectively. In addition, "World News Tonight" is improving the most in Total Viewers and Adults 25-54 compared to "CBS Evening News" (flat/+3%) and "NBC Nightly News" (+1%/-8%).

For the week, "World News Tonight" led the "CBS Evening News" by 1.471 million Total Viewers, by 435,000 Adults 25-54 and by 284,000 Adults 18-49.

NOTE: "CBS Evening News" was retitled to "CBS Evening Nws" on Thursday (10/23/14) for NFL and was excluded from the averages. CBS' weekly averages are based on 4 days (Mon-Wed and Fri).
