The Hollywood Reporter writes that ABC Family has cancelled BUNHEADS, starring Broadway favorite and two-time Tony Award-winner Sutton Foster. The show ended its first season in February. Despite earlier reports that BUNHEADS' second season would have been entitled to a 25% tax credit for filming in the state of California, plus a wide fan-base, the show has not been renewed.

"Bunheads is a wonderful series that we are very proud to have aired. The series had amazing storytelling, the most talented cast and a passionate and loyal fan base," an ABC Family spokesperson said. "Recognizing all of this, we took extra time to try and find ways to bring the series back for another season, but in the end it simply wasn't possible. We wish the cast and crew the best in their future endeavors."

Bunheads was created by Amy Sherman-Palladino and starred Foster along with original A CHORUS LINE Tony Award-winner Kelly Bishop. The series depicted the goings-on in and around a ballet school in a coastal California town, involving the stories of both the students and the instructors themselves.

The show won a Teen Choice Award nomination for Foster and a Television Critics Circle Award nomination for outstanding achievement in youth programming. Foster also received a Gracie Allen Award for her portrayal of "Michelle".

Foster's many Broadway credits include Anything Goes, Shrek the Musical, Young Frankenstein, The Drowsy Chaperone, Little Women, Chess, Funny Girl, Thoroughly Modern Millie, The Scarlet Pimpernel, Annie, Grease and Les Miserables, as well as off-Broadway's Trust, and the US Tours of The Will Rogers Follies and Les Mis.
