ABC Confirms Hayley Atwell, Showrunners Set for Marvel's AGENT CARTER
ABC and Marvel are one step closer to bringing Peggy Carter to television.
Following months of back-and-forth reports, ABC Entertainment Group president Paul Lee confirmed at today's TCA event that the studio is developing AGENT CARTER - and that Hayley Atwell is officially on board to reprise her role from CAPTAIN AMERICA. REAPER creators Tara Butters and Michele Fazekas have also signed on as showrunners.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the project "takes place a year after the events of Captain America: The First Avenger and follows Steve Rogers' (Chris Evans) girlfriend Agent Carter (portrayed by Hayley Atwell) as she builds her career as a secret agent while the hero is frozen in ice."
"[It] certainly has a good chance to be on the network," Lee said at the event, going on to say that the script for the pilot has been received.
The Hollywood Reporter originally announced the news in September.
Atwell recently shot a cameo for the upcoming CAPTAIN America sequel THE WINTER SOLDIER, which is set for an April 4, 2014 theatrical release.
Atwell's first feature film role was in Woody Allen's 2007 film Cassandra's Dream, in which she took the part of a stage actress opposite Ewan McGregor and Colin Farrell. In 2008, she appeared in the film The Duchess as Bess Foster and the film Brideshead Revisited as Lady Julia Flyte, earning praise and nominations from the British Independent Film Awards and the London Film Critics' Circle Awards.
Atwell appeared as "415" in AMC Television's November 2009 miniseries, The Prisoner, a remake of the 1967-68 series by the same name. She also appeared in The Pillars of the Earth.
