Ailyn Pérez will sing the role of Micaëla in this evening's performance of Bizet's Carmen, replacing Hei-Kyung Hong, who is ill.

American soprano Pérez made her Met debut on February 6 as Micaëla and has sung all the performances of the current run of Carmen, which continues through March 7. She has previously sung the role with the Philadelphia Opera. A 2012 winner of the Richard Tucker Award, her upcoming engagements include Adina in Donizetti's L'Elisir d'Amore with the Bavarian State Opera; Violetta in Verdi's La Traviata and Norina in Donizetti's Don Pasquale at Barcelona's Gran Teatre del Liceu; Mimì in Puccini's La Bohème at La Scala; and Countess Almaviva in Mozart's Le Nozze di Figaro at Houston Grand Opera.

Tonight's performance of Carmen, conducted by Louis Langrée, also stars El?na Garan?a in the title role, Roberto Alagna as Don José, and Gábor Bretz as Escamillo.
