WFUV Fills the Holiday Season with Festive Programming

WFUV, New York (90.7 FM/wfuv.org), has a full lineup of special programs to usher out 2016 and ring in 2017. Throughout the day on December 13, WFUV DJs will share their picks for the Best of 2016, before the annual WFUV Listener Poll of favorite songs, albums, and new artists of the year closes that night at midnight. The full listener poll results (Top 90 Songs, Top 50 Albums and Top 5 Discoveries of 2016) will be posted on December 19, with an on-air countdown of the Top 90 Songs of 2016 that day, beginning at 10 a.m.

As a special holiday community service during WFUV's year-end membership drive (December 14-18) listeners will be asked to support WFUV's music discovery and add $5 for charity partner Little Kids Rock, which brings modern band to classrooms in public schools.

Holiday Cheer for FUV: Live from The Beacon Theatre (this year's concert, plus highlights from Holiday Cheers past, including ShaRon Jones & The Dap-Kings) will be broadcast three times this month: December 22 from 6-9 p.m., December 23 from 8-11 p.m., and December 24 from 1-4 p.m.. Amos Lee & Friends (which included Lucinda Williams, Corinne Bailey Rae, and The Record Company, plus special guests Rachael Price of Lake Street Dive and Philadelphia-based singer Mutlu) rocked the house with their individual and collaborative performances. The sold-out concert, which was dedicated to ShaRon Jones, finished with Amos & Company performing Donny Hathaway's 1971 classic, "This Christmas," and "Silent Night" as encores.

On December 23 WFUV kicks off the holiday programming with The Whole Wide World with Rita Houston Christmas Special from 6-8 p.m., followed by Holiday Cheer for FUV: Live from The Beacon Theatre and The Alternate Side Christmas Special 11 p.m. to midnight.

Christmas Eve will feature rebroadcasts of The Whole Wide World Christmas Special from 11 a.m-1 p.m and Holiday Cheer for FUV: Live from the Beacon Theatre from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m, followed by festive editions of Mixed Bag with Don McGee and Cavalvade with Paul Cavalconte.The station will broadcast the Festival of Lessons & Carols from 10:30-11:30 p.m. and Midnight Mass from 11:30 p.m.-1 a.m. from Fordham University Church.

On Christmas Day WFUV will air special editions of Ceol na nGael (playing their favorite Celtic Christmas classics), Woody's Children with Bob Sherman (featuring a Christmas story and songs, as well as a few Chanukah offerings) and Sunday Supper with John Platt (the annual Festival of Holiday Songs).

Finally, on December 31 WFUV rings in 2017 with a soundtrack for celebration with The New Year's Eve Party from 8 p.m.-2 a.m.
