Austin has seen a number of solid orchestral pop and rock outfits in recent years, but perhaps none have created more buzz than Mother Falcon. The young group - which is comprised by a rotating group of 15 to 20 musicians, and boasts three cellos, six violins, horns a plenty, several pianos, a bassoon and a glockenspiel - released their new album You Knew on May 7th to praise from NPR, USA Today, NYLON, Paste, and more. Having already developed a cult following in their native Austin, the band took to the road this month to spread their ethereal, genre-breaking sound to audiences along the east coast. Their two NYC residencies-one at Joe's Pub, and one at Brooklyn's Littlefield-wrap up this week with the band covering Radiohead's iconic OK Computer at each venue! They'll also hit Burlington, VT & Providence, RI before heading out to the west coast in August.

It is clear that Mother Falcon thrives in their live performances. Not only has the band won over audiences across the US, but they were also cited as one of Bob Boilen's "15 Essential Moments From SXSW 2013" and Stephen Thompson's "favorite young band of the festival's opening night." To get a sneak peek at their dynamic live performance, you can check out the band covering Radiohead's "Airbag" in a new video that premiered with WNYC today. Click below to watch the video!

Mother Falcon originally began as an afterschool jam among a handful of orchestra students looking for a more creative outlet than reading sheet music. It wasn't long before that snowballed into an organic band made up of individuals who aren't afraid to explore their varied musical influences. In their two years together, the collective has managed to craft a signature soundscape, blending traditional rock elements and whirling horns with strings that dominate and dance behind emotive vocal turns. The densely layered tracks are led by the distinctive croon of Tamir Kalifa against harmonies between members Nick Gregg and Claire Puckett.
