The weather isn't the only thing that's heating up. This summer, Flushing Town Hall has a stellar line up of free concerts, programs and events. Whether you're into yoga, have a love for Moroccan music, or just looking for a cool place to beat the heat, head over to Flushing Town Hall.

July 14

Let's do the Twist - Rock & Roll House Party

The Karlos Trapp Band presents some of the most fun filled popular music of the 1960's when "Chubby Checker", "The Beatles" and "Good Vibrations" abounded; it is a trip back in time when music was upbeat and life seemed carefree. 1960's refresher dance lessons will begin before the music so you can tune in!

July 28

Today's Teen Dancers, Tomorrow's Dance Artists (This program will be held in the theater.)

Young Dancemakers Company, the renowned summer ensemble of NYC teens, presents a free concert of original choreography: topical, mindful, witty, fun dances, with bold themes holding meaning for today's world. The concert, directed by 2012 NY Dance and Performance "Bessie" award-winner Alice Teirstein, includes live music by percussionist/YDC Music Director William Catanazaro and excerpts of a work by guest choreographer Doug Elkins ranging from hip-hop to martial arts, plus "Dance With Us," engaging the audience in lively improvisation with the dancers.

Music from Morocco

Move to the rhythm of Moroccan Music with Layali El Andalous, an authentic Moroccan Band that uses the "Oud" , "Bendir" and "Dumbek". These exotic instruments help to make the magic of Morocco come alive while dance instructor Zeina al Qamarshows you how to " Belly Dance"!

August 25

From Cuba to Mexico

A musical potpurri of Rhumba, Mambo, Son and Bolero; from Cuba, Mexico and Puerto Rico performed by Adela Dalto, a featured vocalist with "Mario Bauza's Afro Cuban Jazz Orchestra" and Arturo O ' Farrill at " Lincoln Center." She explains the musical connections through the Afro Cuban- Latin Music Styles.

Take Great Music Home!

Gently used and new CDs for sale. All proceeds benefit FTH's Free Community programs, sales take place on Concert Sundays.

Astoria Federal Savings' "Kids Tools for School" Collection Drive

The program provides local students whose families struggle to afford school supplies with the much-needed educational tools to excel and perform well in the classroom. Starting August 1st, the community is invited to participate by bringing their donations of new school supplies or cash to purchase supplies to Astoria Federal Savings' 85 branches in Queens, Brooklyn, Nassau, Suffolk, and Westchester.

This multi-venue show, curated by LICA, reaches out to the varied communities near LaGuardia Community College, Flushing Town Hall, and Queens borough Community College, to highlight and showcase the broad diversity and creativity of Queens' artists.

All members of Flushing Council on Culture & the Arts who are visual artists are invited to show their work in this exhibition which is a yearly tradition at historic Flushing Town Hall. This year's theme celebrates the lovely new landscaping and re-construction of Flushing Town Hall's garden and outdoor performance space.

Salon Sunday: Sunday, August 18, 2013 at 2pm

Artists working in any medium are invited to bring in slides, CDs or a few actual samples of their work. Each artist is allotted a time to speak, followed by Q & A while we network over cookies and coffee. The public is always invited to meet area artists and join in the discussion.

SUMMER FEATURE EVENTS

Romeo and Juliet by William Shakespeare

Co-presented as a part of Queens College Summer Performing Arts Festival

Thursday July 25, Saturday July 27 and Sunday July 28 at 8PM, FREE

Taking place in modern day Queens, Shakespeare's classic love story is set against the backdrop of two first-generation American youths falling in love while their transplanted families, one Israeli Jews and the other Palestinian Muslims, continue their "ancient grudge" which "breaks to new mutiny" on the streets of Flushing.

Eastern Realm of Arts - Yaji for Traditional Chinese Painting and Calligraphy

Saturday, August 3, 2013, 2-5PM, FREE

Yaji in ancient China meant elegant gatherings in gardens, which brought together famous musicians, chess players, calligraphers, and painters. In this event, the calligraphers and painters will create art work on the premises, as well as illustrate the content and the creative motivation behind the work.

Before the Yaji program, join us for a 15-mninute traditional Taiwanese puppet theatre "Monkey King VS. Bull King" featuring magic & martial arts. Performed in English by students from The Chinese Cultural Association of Long Island & Chinese School (CCALI) Performing Art Club. Funded in part by Tai Wang, WAC Lighting. Starts at 1:45PM

Yoga in the Garden

Sing and stretch your stress away in our beautiful garden! Yumcha Yoga, a specialist yoga studio in Flushing, has assembled a group of skilled yoga teachers and musicians from all over New York for a special outdoor performance that blends yoga poses and singing specifically aimed to calm your mind, improve your health and celebrate the summer. Sit back and just enjoy the music or join in the asanas. Bring your mats!

Monthly Jazz Jams

Korean Culture Summer Camp

Co-presented with Korean Cultural Service NY

Wednesday, August 28 - Friday, August 30, 2013, 11AM - 3PM

Explore Korean traditional culture through various fun and engaging activities. Students will have the opportunity to make their own Korean masks, play a Korean mask-dance drama, and learn how to play a traditional instrument (buk or janggu).
