From her early days with the seminal R&B band Labelle to her solo work of today, the inimitable Nona Hendryx is always funky, fun, provocative and unpredictable. Join Ms. Hendryx at Joe's Pub as she explores two sides of her ongoing and multi-faceted musical exploration alongside a host of special guests.
In Transformation: Nona's Rebirth is an installation and performance, inspired by working with musicians, sound designers, alternative and interactive media artists, based in experimentation with "unmusical" synthesizers. This includes a portion called Nona Rewired, a collaboration between Hendryx and Berklee college's Electronic Production and Design (EPD) Department.
Nona Revisited is music of women who rock and funk: a show of solid feminine energy featuring songs by Big Mama Thornton, Patti Labelle, Chaka Khan, Mother's Finest, Sugar Pie DeSanto and songs from Hendryx's solo recordings with her A-Team: Ronny Drayton (guitar), Trevor Gale (drums) and Ooo Chil Cheese, Warren McRae (bass) and Nick Rolfe (keys). The set will feature new and old material; "Transformation," "Rock This House," "Give Love A Try," and more. Hendryx will also be joined by feature guest singers and musicians like the masterful Toshi Reagon, Kiki Hawkins, Shea Rose, Keith Fluitt and more.
