Maxwell, the Grammy Award-winning singer-songwriter, record producer and multi-instrumentalist known for his show-stopping performances, brings his "Summer Solstice" tour to the State Theatre at 7 p.m. on Sunday, June 15, 2014 for a night of R&B, funk, soul, neo-soul and jazz. After his latest release, "BLACKsummers'night" in 2009, Maxwell returns to the scene to reveal new material as part of a planned trilogy to be showcased on this tour. Maxwell described his new work in a recent interview with Billboard Music as "about the last day of summer...it has that bittersweet feel to it." Tickets go on sale at 10 a.m. on Friday, April 25. In concert, the singer and songwriter is lauded for his impeccable vocals, his connection to his audience and the sheer physicality of his performance. Last summer at the Essence Festival in New Orleans, AOL's "Black Voices" wrote "This night belonged to Maxwell...a perfect show. From the set's beginning until its end, the audience sang along to every note, every lyric and every riff as the balladeer performed some of his biggest hits and crowd favorites."

Maxwell began redefining classic soul music for a new generation with the release of his critically-acclaimed debut album, "Maxwell's Urban Hang Suite," in April 1996. Fueled in part by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) gold single, "Ascension (Don't Ever Wonder)," the Grammy-nominated recording achieved double platinum status. Maxwell followed up with his "MTV Unplugged" EP, in 1997 and his second full-length album, "Embrya" in 1998. Maxwell's 2009 album, the "unapologetically deep" (LA Times) 'BLACKsummers'night' ignited the charts and debuted at the number one spot on the U.S. Billboard 200 chart, winning him two 2010 Grammys and another platinum award. To date, Maxwell has achieved 12 gold and platinum certifications from the RIAA for his albums and singles.

Before the release of "BLACKsummers'night," Maxwell kicked off a 2009 summer tour with his first concert in South Africa, selling out 10,000 seats and receiving honorary South African citizenship. In the United States, his tour sold out within minutes of going on sale including two venues in New York City, Radio City Music Hall and the 3,000-seat United Palace Theatre.
