Ingrid Michaelson to Score Upcoming Hulu Series TINY BEAUTIFUL THINGS Starring Kathryn Hahn

It was announced that Emmy Award-nominated singer, songwriter, and composer Ingrid Michaelson has scored the highly-anticipated upcoming Hulu series "Tiny Beautiful Things" from Liz Tigelaar, based on Cheryl Strayed's New York Times bestselling book of the same name. Starring Emmy Award nominee Kathryn Hahn, the 8-episode series is set to premiere on Friday, April 7, 2023.

In addition to the score, for which Michaelson collaborated with composers/producers Gabriel Mann and Juan Ariza, she wrote and recorded a new original song for the series, titled "Not Gone," that will be featured in the finale episode, as well as an exclusive cover of the Indigo Girls favorite, "Closer to Fine," which will be featured in the premiere episode. These songs, score selections, and more will be released by Hollywood Records in conjunction with the series release date on April 7.

"Writing the score for "Tiny Beautiful Things" was one of the most fulfilling and scary experiences I've had," Michaleson said. "I didn't think I had the skill set, but Gabe's experience in this world mixed with my producer Juan's understanding of my music and composition yielded such a lovely and rewarding experience."

Liz Tigelaar serves as Executive Producer/Creator of the series. Reese Witherspoon, Lauren Neustadter, Laura Dern, Jayme Lemons, Cheryl Strayed, Stacey Silverman, and Kathryn Hahn are also executive producers. Michaelson has previously teamed with Tigelaar and ABC Signature in 2020, on the Hulu series "Little Fires Everywhere," for which she was nominated for an Emmy Award for Outstanding Original Music and Lyrics for her song "Build It Up."

She scored the current series on the heels of rave reviews for her musical theater composing debut with The Notebook at Chicago Shakespeare Theater. Michaelson also serves as executive producer for "Slumberkins," the new Apple Original Series from the Jim Henson Company which premiered globally this past November, for which she composed heartwarming original songs to bring the important child development themes to life.

Based on the best-selling collection by Cheryl Strayed, "Tiny Beautiful Things" follows Clare (Kathryn Hahn), a floundering writer, who becomes a revered advice columnist while her own life is falling apart. When we first meet Clare, her marriage to her husband Danny is barely limping along; her teenage daughter, Rae, is pushing her away; and her once-promising writing career is non-existent.

So when an old writing pal asks her to take over as the advice columnist Dear Sugar, she thinks she has no business giving anyone advice. After reluctantly taking on the mantle of Sugar, however, Clare's life unfurls in a complex fabric of memory, exploring her most pivotal moments from childhood through present day, and excavating the beauty, struggle, and humor in her unhealed wounds.

About Ingrid Michaelson

Born in NYC and raised by her mother, a sculptor, and her father, a classical composer, Ingrid Michaelson has artistry in her DNA. At four, she began taking piano lessons, but it wasn't until after she graduated college with a degree in musical theatre and was touring the country in a theater troupe that she began to write her own songs.

Ingrid's music is released on the label she founded, Cabin 24 Records, which has released her gold and platinum hits including "The Way I Am," "Girls Chase Boys," and "You and I."

While Michaelson has established herself as an artistic force over the course of eight full-length albums, she's also experienced enviable success writing for other artists, and for stage and screen. In 2020, she received her first Emmy Award nomination for her original song "Build It Up," written for the hit series, "Little Fires Everywhere."

A lifelong Broadway fan, Michaelson made her stage debut in 2017, starring in Natasha, Pierre & The Great Comet of 1812, and recently made her creative debut, writing the music and lyrics for the Broadway-bound musical adaptation of the best-selling novel, The Notebook. Her latest credits as composer for film and TV include Disney's upcoming film Penelope, and the Apple TV+/Jim Hensen Co. children's TV Series Slumberkins.
