The POW! Foundation brings the spirit of Mardi Gras to San Diego in January. One of the longest standing Cajun bands in the world, Grammy Award-winning BeauSoleil avec Michael Doucet takes the stage at the Poway Center for the Performing Arts on Saturday, January 21, 2012 at 8pm. Laissez le bon temps rouler!

Since their inception in 1975, Lafayette, Louisiana's BeauSoleil has spearheaded a cultural renaissance that elevated Cajun music to one of domestic and international acclaim. BeauSoleil’s sources of inspiration are early Cajun musicians Dennis McGee, Canray Fontenot, Varise Connor, Wade Fruge, Dewey Balfa, Ardoin and Freeman Fontenot. According to the band's web site, Beausoleil's musicians "take the rich Cajun traditions of Louisiana and artfully blend elements of zydeco, New Orleans jazz, Tex-Mex, country, blues and more into a satisfying musical recipe.”
With eleven Grammy nominations over their 36 year career, BeauSoleil received their latest nomination in 2010 with their Yep Roc label debut, Alligator Purse. In 1998, they became the first Cajun band to win a Grammy for their L'Amour Ou La Folie effort (Best Traditional Folk Album). The band received their second Grammy for Live at the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival (Best Zydeco Or Cajun Music Album) in 2009. Continuing to garner awards, The European Cajun and Zydeco Awards in Cologne, Germany recently honored them as the "Best Non-European Cajun Band 2011"

The band's name is a tribute to Joseph Broussard dit Beausoleil, the leader of the Acadian resistance to British deportation efforts beginning in 1755. BeauSoleil consists of Michael Doucet - Violin, Guitar, Accordion, Mandolin, Vocals; David Doucet - Guitar, Vocals; Jimmy Breaux – Accordion; Billy Ware – Percussion; Tommy Alesi – Drums; and Mitch Reed - Fiddle, Bass
