TOONOCALYPSE to Have World Premiere at 69th Edinburgh International Film Festival

Owen Rixon's highly anticipated live-action/animation short film Toonocalypse is set to have its World Premiere at the 69th Edinburgh International Film Festival. The film, along with several other short animations, will be competing for the festival's prestigious McLaren Award which aims to provide a FOCUS for new, British short animations. This year's McLaren Award showcase takes place on the 23 June in the Filmhouse. In addition, Toonocalypse has also been nominated for the EIFF's Best Short Film Award.

Toonocalypse has been described as "'Cloverfield' meets 'Roger Rabbit'" (Campbell, 2014) due to its unique combination of live-action handheld footage and 2D animation. Toonocalypse is set in Edinburgh and follows two students who document the arrival of cute, cartoon aliens to Earth, but after a year, the pair discover the true intention of the alien's visit.

The film is Owen's second short film to be nominated for a McLaren award after his graduation film, Welcome to Twister was nominated in 2009.

The 2D Workshop is a 2D animation, VFX & original music company which was founded in 2012 by artist Owen Rixon and composer Callum Barton. The company is dedicated to producing cinematic, art driven 2D animation and visual effects, alongside original music composition and custom made sound design.
