Earlier this week, BWW reported that actress Shailene Woodley was officially out of The Amazing Spider-Man 2. After filming only three scenes over the course of three days, director Marc Webb decided to cut Woodley's scenes as Mary Jane Watson from the film in favor of clear and consistent storytelling.

"I made a creative decision to streamline the story and focus on Peter and Gwen and their relationship," Webb told THR. "Shailene is an incredibly talented actress, and while we only shot a few scenes with Mary Jane, we all love working with her."

Webb also confirmed that Mary Jane would appear in the third film, though hinted that the character will likely be recast. Last night, in an interview with Canada's Entertainment Tonight, Sarah Gadon (A Dangerous Method, Cosmopolis) confirmed she will be joining The Amazing Spider-Man franchise.

Though the actress did not indicate what her role would be, many believe she will become "the new Mary Jane" replacing Woodley.

The Amazing Spider-Man 2 is set to open May 2, 2014. In the film, starring Emma Stone, Andrew Garfield and Jamie Foxx, Peter Parker's (Garfield), life is busy, between taking out the bad guys as Spider-Man and spending time with the person he loves, Gwen (Emma Stone), High School graduation can't come quickly enough. Peter hasn't forgotten about the promise he made to Gwen's father to protect her by staying away - but that's a promise he just can't keep. Things will change for Peter when a new villain, Electro (Jamie Foxx), emerges, an old friend, Harry Osborn (Dane DeHaan), returns, and Peter uncovers new clues about his past.
