Deadline reports that Penn Badgley (Gossip Girl) will join Ethan Hawke and Ed Harris in Michael Almereyda's film adaptation of Shakespeare's CYMBELINE. He will play "Posthumus".

Badgley's character is an orphan who marries the daughter of King Cymbeline and is banished for the act, which launches a war in the kingdom. The film is described as a modern day adaption of Shakespeare's classic play, complete with biker gangs.

CYMBELINE will follow "a battle between dirty cops and a drug dealing biker gang set in a corruption-riddled 21st century America." The original play focused on the daughter of the British king Cymbeline, who discovers she has secretly married a man raised in her father's court, resulting in his banishment from the court.

Harris just signed on to take on the role of 'King Cymbeline'. The film is scheduled to begin on August 19 in New York City. Almereyda wrote and will direct the film with Anthony Katagas producing along with Michael Benaroya.

Badgley most recently appeared on TV in Gossip Girl and will next be seen in the feature film Parts Per Billion. His past film credits include Greetings from Tim Buckley, Periods., Easy A and John Tucker Must Die, with TV appearances in The Bedford Diaries, The Mountain, Do Over, The Young and The Restless and more.
