Entertainment Weekly reports that Marvel is joining forces with Oscar winner John Ridley (12 Years a Slave) in the development of a new television series. According to the site, the deal "involves reinventing an existing Marvel superhero character or property for ABC. "

Ridley is currently working on the new ABC drama series "American Crime" and has served as executive producer on such shows as "The Wanda Sykes Show," "Barbershop," and "Third Watch.

It was reported last week that Marvel is currently working on a spin-off for its ABC hit series "Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D." Few details on the new project were disclosed.

Other recent Marvel TV ventures include "Marvel's Daredevil" and the upcoming "Marvel's A.K.A. Jessica Jones". "Luke Cage" and "Iron Fist" will also soon debut on Netflix. The studio is currently enjoying the success of "Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D." and "Marvel's Agent Carter" and expects to receive word from ABC on the renewal of both series.
