John Goodman Joins Paramount's Remake of THE GAMBLER

The Wrap reports that John Goodman (Inside Llewyn Davis) has signed on for Paramount's upcoming remake of the classic 1974 film THE GAMBLER, directed by Rupert Wyatt.

William Monahan (The Departed) wrote the script for the new version, which follows a literature professor addicted to gambling who finds himself in a heap of debt and trouble.

Goodman joins Mark Wahlberg as the title character, which was originally played by James Caan. Goodman will play a Jewish loan shark to whom Wahlberg owes a debt.

Also in the cast are Brie Larson, Jessica Lange, Michael K. Williams and Travis Tope.

Goodman's next project is The Monuments Men. He recently starred in Inside Llewyn Davis and The Hangover Part III, The Internship, Monster's University and Amazon's first original series Alpha House. Some of his more recent film credits include Argo, ParaNorman, The Artist, The Princess and the Frog and more. Goodman last starred on Broadway in the 2009 revival of Waiting for Godot and prior to that, 1985's Big River.
