According to Deadline, SHERLOCK HOLMES' Jared Harris has boarded MGM and Fox 2000's upcoming emake of the classic 1982 film POLTERGEIST.

In a revisionist take on the classic horror film, a family struggling to make ends meet relocates to an outdated suburban home and is confronted by an angry spirit who kidnaps their youngest daughter and challenges them to band together to rescue her from the clutches of evil.

Harris will take on the role of Carrigan, "a larger than life TV personality who left the world of academia behind to become the star host of basic cable TV show Haunted House Cleaners."

As previously reported, Rosemarie DeWitt will take on the lead female role originally played by JoBeth Williams, who starred opposite Craig T. Nelson. Director Gil Kenan and crew are still on the hunt to cast the male lead.

Kenan ("Monster House") is set to direct from a screenplay by Pulitzer Prize-winning writer, David Lindsay-Abaire (whose recent credits include "Oz: The Great and Powerful"). The film is being produced by Sam Raimi ("Evil Dead") and Rob Tapert ("The Posession") via Ghost House Pictures, along with Roy Lee ("The Strangers"). Nathan Kahane ("The Grudge") will serve as executive producer.

POLTERGEIST is scheduled to begin production this Fall.

Harris is best known for his roles as Lane Pryce on the AMCseries Mad Men and David Robert Jones on the Fox science-fiction series Fringe, besides his work in films like The Rachel Papers, Lost in Space,Resident Evil: Apocalypse, How to Kill Your Neighbor's Dog, Happiness, Mr. Deeds, The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows, and Lincoln.
