Deadline reports that after nearly two decades of a rumored return, GHOSTBUSTERS 3 will finally makes its way back to the big screen with a new installment. Ivan Reitman will once again direct the comedy which is scheduled to start production in the summer of 2013. Etan Cohen will rewrite the script, working from a draft by Gene Stupnitsky and Lee Eisenberg.

While the original's leading man, Bill Murray, has said he will not appear in the sequel, co-star Dan Aykroyd recently confirmed that he will return as his character 'Ray.' In an interview, the actor revealed that in the upcoming film, Ray is "now blind in one eye and can't drive the cadillac. He's got a bad knee and can't carry the packs. Egon is too large to get into the harness. We need young blood and that's the promise. We're gonna hand it to a new generation."

If all goes according to plan, the sequel will most likely be released in 2014, tying into the original film's 30th anniversary.
