Charlize Theron has officially signed on to star in the upcoming American adaptation of SYMPATHY FOR LADY VENGEANCE, the final film in Park Chan-Wook's South Korean trilogy.

William Monohan is set to write the film for Theron's Denver & Delilah Films, CJ Entertainment, and Annapurna Pictures. No director is yet attached to the project.

SYMPATHY FOR LADY VENGEANCE follows a woman who is wrongly imprisoned - and upon release, vows revenge.

"This will be very American – and very unexpected," Monahan said in a statment. "Park is a genius; it's the Everest of adaptations and I've got blood in my teeth to do it."

No additional casting or potential release date have been announced at this time.

Theron has made a name for herself in Hollywood by starring in the hit films such as MONSTER, in which she won an Oscar, 2012's PROMETHEUS, SNOW WHITE AND THE HUNSTMAN, THE ROAD, and HANCOCK.
