Variety reports that Michael C. Hall, who recently ended his run as the East German transgender singer in Broadway's HEDWIG AND THE ANGRY INCH, is set to join the cast of Disney's remake of PETE'S DRAGON.

The actor will join previously announced cast members Robert Redford, Bryce Dallas Howard, Wes Bentley and Oakes Fegley on the project. David Lowery will helm from a script he penned with Toby Halbrooks.

According to the report, the film will be a "reinvention of the 1977 film that revolves around Pete and his best friend Elliot, who happens to be dragon." While the original movie was a musical, the newest version is said to be a straight narrative live-action film with CGI technology used to bring the dragon to life.

Hall, best known for his title role in the TV series "Dexter", was last seen on the big screen in "Cold in July." His other Broadway credits include Will Eno's The Realistic Joneses.
