Broadway's Cory Michael Smith to Star Opposite Cate Blanchett & Rooney Mara in CAROL

Broadway's Cory Michael Smith is headed to the big screen.

According to Deadline, Smith has just signed on to join Cate Blanchett and Rooney Maray in Todd Haynes' upcoming film CAROL.

As previously reported, CAROL tells the story of "the complex relationship between two very different women in 1950s New York. One, a girl in her 20s working in a department store who dreams of a more fulfilling life, and the other, a wife trapped in a loveless, moneyed marriage."

Smith will take on the role of "Tommy, a seemingly charming traveling salesman who meets Blanchett and Mara's characters on the road."

Production on CAROL is set to begin next month.

The actor recently Peter Sattler's upcoming indie film Camp X-Ray. He will also appear in HBO's Olive Kitteridge miniseries, alongside Frances McDormand.

Smith made his Broadway debut as 'Fred' in Tony Award winning playwright Richard Greenberg's Breakfast at Tiffany's which opened at the Cort Theatre on March 20, 2013. The stage adaption of Truman Capote's classic novella also starred Emilia Clarke (HBO's "Game of Thrones") in the iconic role of 'Holly Golightly,' and George Wendt as 'Joe Bell.'
