Wayne State University's To Sangana Company and the Maggie Allesee Department of Theatre and Dance are pleased to present Matondo ("thank you"), a performance of African Dance and drumming on Saturday, February 14 at 7:00 pm and Sunday, February 15 at 2:00 pm. Both performances are preceded by an African Bazaar, at 5:00 pm on Saturday and Noon on Sunday. The Bazaars feature African vendors, African food, a mini African fashion viewing, a raffle, and two sample classes in African dance and drumming. All events are held in the Allesee Dance Theatre, located on the third floor, room 3317 of Old Main, 4841 Cass Avenue, at the corner of Cass and Warren on the campus of Wayne State University.

To Sangana's performance this year is a high-energy program including multiple styles of African Dance and African Drumming as well as choreography and performance by esteemed Guest Artists. Styles presented include Central and West African drumming, Afro/Modern dance and Congolese dance, as well as Soukous, songs, chants, and a Dundun piece working with the big drums and movement.

The title "Matondo" means "thank you" and references the To Sangana company's gratitude to all those who have assisted them in getting to where they are today. Highlighting Matondo are guest artist works by Penny Godboldo and Basira Norris, and live performance by Keith "Daud" Wood, a master Congolese drummer from hailing from Atlanta. Also featured is poet Mwalimu Angela Gaye, known for her strikingly strong voice, Dundun accompanist Marwan Amen-Ra, and Watoto Ya Ngomo (children of the drum), led by Chinelo Amen Ra.

Tickets for the To Sangana concert are $12 General Admission; $8 Students and Seniors. Seating is limited. A limited number of tickets may be available at the door for $15. Tickets can be purchased at wsushows.com, at the Hillberry Box Office (4743 Cass Ave, Detroit MI), or by calling (313)-577-2972.
