Savion Glover to Bring STEPZ to Gallo Center, Today
Tony Award-winning dancer, choreographer and producer Savion Glover, "possibly the best tap dancer that ever lived" according to tap legend Gregory Hines, will appear at the Gallo Center for the Arts for the first time on Saturday, March 15 with his show "STePz."

Glover's numerous credits include the Broadway shows "The Tap Dance Kid," "Black and Blue," "Jelly's Last Jam," and "Bring in 'da Noise, Bring in 'da Funk." He also is well remembered for his five-year stint on "Sesame Street" and for the films "Tap" with Hines and Sammy Davis. Jr., "Bamboozled" directed by Spike Lee, and "Happy Feet" (1 and 2), an Academy Award-winner he choreographed.
"STePz" is another of Glover's exuberant celebrations of tap dance. He and an ensemble of dancers, TLHS, fuse traditional music selections of the past with Glover's self-proclaimed tap style and energy of the future. The production showcases his gifts for jazz phrasing, both bass line and melody, as well as his wild improvisations.
Glover's appearance at the Gallo Center is sponsored by Alfred Matthews and Twigs & Stems, and is supported in part by an award from the National Endowment for the Arts.
