In the Green Room Award-winning production Private Dances audiences will encounter live dance performances in intimate and unique one-on-one settings. Housed inside 10 camping tents and the backseat of a car, Private Dances by Nat Cursio Co. is a dance event for lovers and newcomers alike. Presented as part of Darebin City Council's year-round performing arts program Speakeasy, Private Dances plays Northcote Town Hall tonight 28 - Saturday 31 August.

Transforming Northcote Town Hall into what has been described as a "Persian tent city", Private Dances compartmentalises individual dance works and dance-on-film screenings in private spaces, including 10 camping tents and the backseat of a car. Featuring works by Australia's best contemporary dancers, choreographers and filmmakers, audiences are guided into the various performance spaces and experience their own up-close-and-personal encounter with dance, choreography and the nuances of the human body.

"Darebin's Speakeasy arts program has regularly been presenting creative performances since it was first launched in December and this latest instalment adds another inspiring layer to the contemporary arts experiences to be had in Darebin," said Darebin Mayor Cr Tim Laurence.

"Private Dances is an event with a strong creative edge where audiences can eat, drink, and work their way through a formidable selection of live dance and dance on screen."

Premiering as a keynote project for the 2010 Next Wave Festival to critical acclaim, Private Dances won the Green Room Dance Award for Concept and Realisation.

Natalie Cursio is a Melbourne-based choreographer and curator. Under the guise of Nat Cursio Co., Cursio primarily creates live dance performance work but also explores dance in the context of public space, film, photography and fashion. Her work has been presented in Taipei, Seoul, Busan, Tokyo, Hong Kong, Singapore, Sydney, Canberra, Adelaide and Melbourne. Cursio was a recipient of the AsiaLink Residency, has guest lectured at the Korean National University of Arts and is The Substation's choreographer in residence in 2013.

Speakeasy presents Nat Cursio Co. and Insite Arts' Private Dances at 8pm tonight 28 - Saturday 31 August, Northcote Town Hall. Tickets from $22.
