Exit 12 Dance Company of New York City will pay tribute to Memorial Day on Saturday May 28th with a performance of its new work Odyssey aboard The Intrepid Air & Space Museum in New York Harbor at 1:00 pm.

Performed by Exit12, a nationally celebrated dance company, Odyssey draws upon the works of Romare Bearden, Gil Scott-Heron, and Homer's The Odyssey to depict a veteran's journey home. Exit12 dancer, and choreographer Andrew Harper parallels the tale of the warrior Odysseus to veterans returning home from war and readjusting to their former lives. The search for home in Harper's Odyssey is circular and ongoing. Events occur, obstacles interfere, and just when the end is in sight, the journey begins all over again. The endings feel the same as the beginnings, and yet, everything has changed.

"Andrew Harper's Odyssey examines the unique perspective that connects communities of veterans and civilians by acknowledging shared experiences of internal battles," Exit12's Artistic Director Roman Baca explains.

Celebrating veterans and the military is a key element of Exit12's mission. Memorial Day Weekend rounds out the company's 2016 spring season, which included a residency at University of Saint Joseph in conjunction with their emphasis on veteran health and healing within their School of Social Work.

The performance is available through admission to The Intrepid Air, Sea & Space Museum.
