Dance Currents, Inc. is presenting "Charge the Air" at Green Street Studios Sunday May 12th at 2 pm. This event is the third in a series of Sunday afternoon concerts, presented by Dance Currents Inc. for their 2012-2013 season. "Charge the Air" will be an afternoon of live music and dance including pieces from Dance Currents' repertory, new dances by Kathy Hassinger and Alison Smith, a graduate of the Masters program in Choreography from Laban Contemporary Dance, and the music of Saint Saëns, Fantaisie played live by flutist Yuji Kano, and harpist, Morton Mason. Dance Currents dancers who will perform are Jennifer Burpee, Whitney Cover, Sarah Josselyn, Lauren Previte, Kai Sherman and Alison Smith. Mrs. Hassinger's new dance, "Braiding" explores the passion for dance through three generations and celebrates mothers who dance.

Dance Current's mission is to strengthen and develop the link between past, present and future dance by presenting the art of dance as vital to the health and culture of a thriving community, collaborating with artists of diverse disciplines, and participating in fundraising events for the benefit of the larger, non-profit community. "Angel's Afoot", the first concert in our 2012-2013 Sunday afternoon series was presented December 9, 2012 at Green Street Studios, with cellist Peter Zay. "Chaos or Connection: Living the Legacy of Modern Dance," the second event included a movie in the making, Modern Dance repertory of Isadora Duncan, Robert Battle, Carla Maxwell (Limon Etude) and Marcus Schulkind as well as a panel moderated by Iris Fanger on the legacy of Modern Dance.

Dance Currents Inc. is a 501c3, non-profit corporation. They have produced dance and music concerts as fundraisers for disaster victims (Bridging the Gulf, 2006/Katrina and The Haiku Project 2012/The Great Earthquake in Japan). Dance Currents also presents Sacred Dance (Angels Afoot, 2012 and Bach and the Dance, 2007), as well as their historical programs (One Hundred Years of Modern Dance, 2011). Their desire is to produce concerts of music and dance, thereby developing opportunities for artists of both disciplines to "Charge the Air" and electrify the hearts and minds of ever expanding audiences.

Dance Currents Inc. presents "Charge the Air" at Green Street Studios, 185 Green Street, Cambridge, MA at 2pm.
