UPDATE: Contrary to yesterday's report that the project has been scrapped, The Wrap reports that Lifetime is moving forward with its Will Ferrell, Kristen Wiig TV movie.

On Thursday, BWW reported that the movie had been canceled, but that may have been a ploy from Ferrell's press reps following the leak that the secret movie was in production.

The original report follows:

Entertainment Weekly reports that following yesterday's news of Will Ferrell and Kristen Wiig's "top secret" Lifetime movie A DEADLY ADOPTION, the film will be nixed.

"We are deeply disappointed that our planned top secret project was made public," Ferrell said in a statement. 'Kristen and I have decided it is in the best interest for everyone to forego the project entirely, and we thank Lifetime and all the people who were ready to help us make this film."

A DEADLY ADOPTION, already filmed, was slated for an early summer premiere.

The dramatic thriller was described as "successful couple who house and care for a pregnant woman (Jessica Lowndes) with the hopes of adopting her unborn child - then things quickly go awry." The project was supposed to be "campy and fun and a contemporary wink at the genre frequently seen on the Lifetime network."

The two-hour TV movie was executive produced by Ferrell and Adam McKay's Gary Sanchez Productions and directed by Rachel Lee Goldenberg (Escape From Polygamy, Love at the Christmas Table), based on a script from The Spoils of Babylon's Andrew Steele.

The timing of both announcements - on and around April Fools' Day - is suspicious. Do you think A DEADLY ADOPTION has really been halted?
