Pulitzer Prize winning Playwright David Mamet (Glengarry Glen Ross) and LA Drama Critics Circle winning Director/Producer Marja-Lewis Ryan (One In The Chamber) bring their critically acclaimed, sold-out, LA production of THE ANARCHIST to New York in collaboration with The Sheen Center & The Atlantic Theater Company. Produced by Emily Peck and Ryan, this special limited engagement will play April 27-April 30 at The Sheen Center, 18 Bleecker Street.

In addition to the limited run, the night before the opening, David Mamet will host a talk, which will be followed by a Q and A on Tuesday April 26 at 8pm in The Sheen Center's Loreto Theater. Tickets are $20 for the talk and $60 for the talk and a performance.

35 years ago, as an idealistic radical, Cathy (Heidi Sulzman) killed two police officers after inciting an act of anarchy. Now, she comes face to face with her parole officer, Ann (Rebecca Pidgeon), for the last time. This 70 minute, thought-provoking play comes to a head as Ann seeks a sign of true rehabilitation while Cathy bargains to be set free. David Mamet's THE ANARCHIST will run Off-Broadway - as part of The Sheen Center's programming during Pope Francis's Year of Mercy.

"We are thrilled to have the opportunity to remount this production in New York," says the play's producer Emily Peck. "The Sheen Center and The Atlantic Theater Company see what I saw: an intense, carefully crafted drama, deeply worthy of a second look in a more intimate setting."

The team behind this production is not shying away from the play's infamous run on Broadway in 2012. Rather, it respected the criticism and staged the LA run in a humble 80-seat black box. "The small, intimate space ... offers something special that a big Broadway stage could not," wrote BROADWAY WORLD critic Don Grigware of the LA Production. "As I sat watching, I felt like I was eavesdropping on the interrogation. It was real and fascinatingly engrossing. ... If a play does not succeed on the big Equity stage, it does not mean that it will not find its place. Bravo to Mamet and his team," (Broadway World, 2015). It will now play in the Sheen Center's 80-seat Black Box Theater. William Spencer Reilly, Executive Director of the Sheen Center says, "Dave's writing about the power of forgiveness in this piece, blew me away and I think being able to experience it up close will be deeply moving for our audiences."

In keeping with the Sheen Center's signatory approach to hosting thoughtful conversations, a talkback will occur after every performance.
