Jerry Seinfield Agitated by Race Question During Interview with BuzzFeed Brews
During an interview with BuzzFeed Brews with CBS This Morning, Peter Lauria mentions to comedian Jerry Seinfeld how in 22 episodes, his web series, Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee has had "mostly white male" guests on the show. In respone Seinfeld sarcastically says, "Yeah, let's get into that. Take a look over here, Peter. What do you see? A lot of whiteys." Seinfeld, obviously annoyed, then makes a remarks that the question "really pisses me off."
Seinfeld says that race and gender have no factor for him when it comes to comedy. He then talks about Tina Fey, his most recent guest on his web show, and his questions to her about being a female comedian. After Lauria mentions tweets regarding this issue, Seinfeld goes on to say, "People think it's the census or something. This has gotta represent the actual pie chart of America? Who cares? Funny is the world that I live in. You're funny, I'm interested. You're not funny, I'm not interested. I have no interest in gender or race or anything like that."
Seinfeld believes that it is "anti-comedy" when people are "calculating is this the exact right mix" of race and gender representation in comedy.
