TORONTO - Deke Rivers' launches a new marketing campaign for his novel, "The Singer and His Songs" (published by iUniverse).

When Chris Smith arrives with his family in Australia, his family is left impoverished by the war. With the help of his girlfriend, April, Chris discovers his hidden musical talents and becomes the lead guitarist of a teenage rock band. Just as his musical career is taking off, Chris' parents announce the family must move to Canada.

Chris is forced to start from scratch away from his parents, who care little for his music career. When Chris is accidentally discovered one night at a studio, the studio owners and Chris' new girlfriend Sarah help reinvigorate his music career. Now an idol once more, Chris feels torn between the love of his past and the love of his present. Which will he chose?

Based in part on episodes from Rivers' life, "The Singer and His Songs" captures the rock 'n' roll climate of the 1960s. Through his book, Rivers hopes to remind readers of the vital role music plays in their lives.

"Music had become a huge part of life," Rivers says. "People were able to relate their own lives to the music that was being played at the time. Look at your own life and then look at the music that you remember in each era."
