Both concert series are designed to introduce young people to classical music, and feature performances by Cleveland Orchestra musicians with special guest artists. Subscriptions for both series are now available by visiting the Severance Hall Ticket Office, clevelandorchestra.com, and by calling 216-231-1111 or 800-686-1141. Tickets to individual performances go on sale in late summer.

2017-18 American Greetings Family Concert Series

Three Cleveland Orchestra Family Concerts will take place during The Cleveland Orchestra's 100th season in 2017-18, in October, February, and March. The concerts will be performed on Sundays at 3:00 p.m. The series also includes free, pre-concert activities, which begin one hour before each performance, and include Instrument Discovery, where children can try various orchestral instruments and discover their inner musician.

On Sunday, October 29, the audience is encouraged to come dressed in their Halloween best for an afternoon of deliciously frightening musical fun, Halloween Spooktacular, a program filled with magic Tricks and musical Treats in celebration of Halloween. The program features the musical magic of Dukas's The Sorcerer's Apprentice and the rattling bones of Saint-Saëns's Danse Macabre. A costume contest for audience members will take place begins at 1:00 p.m., orchestra musicians will be dressed up, and Severance Hall will be decorated for the holiday as well.

On Sunday, February 11, the award-winning production of Beethoven Lives Upstairs is back by popular demand, following the lively exchange of letters between young Christoph and his uncle. Their subject is the musical "madman" who has moved into the upstairs apartment of Christoph's Vienna home. Through touching correspondence dramatically underscored by excerpts from more than 20 of the composer's most beloved works, Christoph comes to understand the genius of Beethoven, the torment of his deafness, and the beauty of the music he gave to the world.

On Sunday, April 2, the program features Rimsky-Korsakov's Scheherazade, a musical story based on Arabian folk tales from One Thousand and One Nights. The Cleveland Orchestra is joined by Enchantment Theatre Company and their signature blend of puppetry and mime in this family-friendly portrayal of a bossy Sultan who is bewitched by the magical tales of his wife Scheherazade. The concert also includes Glinka's Ruslan and Ludmilla Overture and other classical favorites.
