"Living Life 90 Days At A Time: A Sarcoma Survivor's Journey": a sincere, honest, detailed, and sometimes even humorous recounting from the discovery of cancer to the long battle that ensued. "Living Life 90 Days At A Time: A Sarcoma Survivor's Journey" is the creation of published author, Thom Schmenk, who spent his youth riding his bike along the shores of Lake Erie in a suburb just east of Cleveland, Ohio. After an injury ended an eighteen-year career in the fire service, he moved with his family to South Carolina. Here, he contributed another eighteen-year career in risk management and insurance. Just before retiring, Thom returned to his childhood hobby of cycling. It would become a passion and would one day lead to the discovery of a large tumor bulging out of his left hamstring. After a diagnosis of leiomyosarcoma, Thom shared his plight with a friend, a local Charleston historian and author, who was waging his own fight against prostate cancer. It was Ken Burger's encouragement that got Thom to fulfill a lifelong dream of writing a book. Thom's wife, Judy, suggested he expand the book to help and encourage others to fight on and persevere in their own cancer fight. Besides Thom and his wife enjoying their family-their two sons, their wives, and their grandchildren - he takes pleasure in swimming, reading, and trips to Lake Lure, North Carolina. He enjoys sharing his story with newly diagnosed cancer patients and working to raise funds for sarcoma research.

Thom explains that "(writing a book) was cathartic for me. I wanted to tell my story, give hope and comfort to others, and express my gratitude to all the cancer caregivers and researchers who fight this fight every day."

Published by Christian Faith Publishing, Thom Schmenk's new book offers hope to anyone experiencing the pain and confusion of dealing with cancer.

The author's journey began with a discovery of an egg-sized bulge on the inside surface of his left hamstring. Some procrastination and difficulty in diagnosing the tumor caused delays in treatment. Then he and his wife finally found their way to the right physician and oncology team at the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston. The hard work of this team using treatment gleaned from recent research combined with Thom's faith and the support of friends and family saved his life. Along the way, he shares the tale of three "angels," all perfect strangers who each carried an identical message. Coincidence or divine intervention? Schmenk would like the reader to decide. The mix of real-life experience with his suggestions for other patients is fresh and unique. Whether the reader is an inquiring booklover, a patient traveling a journey of their own, a medical professional, clergy, or a loved one or friend of a patient, this book will capture curiosity and inspire faith both in fellow man and God.
