David and Carole Stieler's lives changed irrevocably in June 2007, when a reckless driver slammed into their motorcycle and left them lying unconscious on the pavement, bleeding and barely alive. The couple has spent the last 9 years inching their way through endless insurance claims, both automotive and health. The next most radical change to their lives could be the 2016 presidential election, which ultimately decides the future of health insurance in the United States.

Epitomizing the middle class, David and Carole Stieler worked hard and sacrificed fun to prepare for a comfortable retirement. Then, when the hit-and-run happened, everything the couple had spent a lifetime accumulating was in jeopardy due to what David Stieler sees as a heartless, profit-driven, government-sanctioned insurance industry.

"Various encounters over the years of recovery following the accident revealed a seriously flawed legal and insurance system driven by laws written by legislators with obvious connections to special interests in the no-fault insurance industry," David Stieler said.

David Stieler, the owner/operator of an automotive repair business, shares the story of the accident and its aftermath, including the resulting insurance nightmare, in "The Ride, the Rose, and the Resurrection". Crucially, both David and Carole were unable due to their injuries to perform the most basic upkeep tasks for their estate, so they were at the mercy of anyone willing to help.

"Ours was a story that needed to be told on behalf of victims who have suffered through similar circumstances," David Stieler said. "The underlying message is about the insurance bureaucracy and the legal side of such tragic situations that so often destroys people before their paid-for benefits are ever received."

The Stielers hope other middle class Americans will recognize the flawed insurance system and use the next weeks before the November election to research which candidates will make changes to the insurance industry.
