BEVERLY HILLS, Calif., Feb. 24, 2015 /PRNewswire/ The Mom's Choice Awards has named children's book "Treasures in the Winter Vault" a thoughtful story about a boy learning about money and the importance of saving as among the best in family-friendly media, products and services.

"Co-author Debbie Bertram and I are thrilled to earn the Mom's Choice Awards Honoring Excellence Seal of Approval," says author, Lisa Detanna, "we wrote this book for parents to use as a helpful tool in starting the conversation with kids about money. For most of us, financial matters are a challenge to talk openly about with family, and this book offers a fun starting point to begin a life-long dialogue about managing money responsibly. So to have it recognized as "Mom's Choice' is particularly gratifying."

Detanna never aspired to be a children's book author, however. As a wealth management adviser to affluent families, celebrities and Hollywood executives for more than 20 years, she saw a critical need for more open dialogue between parents and children about managing money. In discussing the issue with friends, someone suggested she write a children's book.

"Most of us were raised to never discuss family financial matters," says Detanna, "So I often joke that our kids are left to learn about managing money on the street. I wrote this book so they wouldn't have to."

MCA evaluation process uses a propriety methodology in which entries are scored on a number of elements including production quality, design, educational value, entertainment value, originality, appeal, and cost.

Detanna's passion for teaching children financial literacy has prompted her to launch the 2015 Financial Literacy Tour 4 Kids a concert series featuring the acclaimed rock band "Gooding," where families attend an afternoon of fun, celebrity book readings, In & Out Burgers (complimentary), and live music. The kick off concert event is scheduled for Sunday, March 8 at the Saban Theatre in Beverly Hills from 2-5 p.m.
