With our countless devices, we're always connected to a constant flow of data and information. But, what happens when this information is misused or misplaced? This fall, the DC Public Library will explore that question by examining the intersection of data and design through UNCENSORED: Information Antics - a temporary, public art event that celebrates Banned Books Week - the national book community's annual celebration of the freedom to read, express and create.

UNCENSORED will take place at the Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial Library, featuring indoor and outdoor art installations by local artists exploring the concept of censorship in the digital age. The theme for this year's exhibition is "Information Antics," which focuses on the use and abuse of information in our technological age. Works selected by an advisory committee will reflect the myriad of ways in which data is collected, mediated, censored and transposed into alternate forms and expressions.

Confirmed artists to date include:

  • Kelly Towles
  • Nekisha Durrett
  • Mike Iacovone & Billy Friebele (Free Space Collective - DC Public Library's Makers in Residence)
  • Nancy Daly
  • Workingman Collective
  • Fabiola Yurcizin
  • Evan Hume
*Additional artists to be announced at a later date

UNCENSORED: Opening Night will take place on Friday, September 25th and will feature signature cocktails inspired by local mixologists' favorite banned books, live music from local bands including Baby Bry Bry & the Apologists and Delafield String Band, a pop-up market curated by style guru and event chair Jenn Barger, performance art and so much more. Other event chairs include restaurateur and mixologist Derek Brown, Founder of BYT Svetlana Legetic, Partner at Maketto Will Sharp, Founder of "A Creative DC" Morgan H. West, artist Kelly Towles and DeNada knitwear designer Virginia Arrisueño.

Opening night will feature signature cocktails from the following mixologists:
